So who was Eddie Gilbert?
In 1931 Eddie Gilbert was etched into cricket folklore with a cracking spell against Sir Donald Bradman. Eddie Gilbert spent the final years of his life as a patient at the Wolston Park mental hospital. In 2014 the Wolston Park Turf Field was renamed Eddie Gilbert Memorial Field in his honour. Each year Eddie's memory is honoured by the playing of the Eddie Gilbert Memorial Cup, a cricket match between the Queensland Police Service Commissioners XI and WPC.
An Eddie Gilbert Memorial feature art piece together with a dedication plaque has been placed on the lawn adjacent to the club house. At night it is lit up and looks magnificent.
