Child Protection and Blue Cards

All WPC Cricket Members should be familiar with and observe the Cricket Australia and Club Child Protection policies which can be accessed below.  



Blue Card Requirements

It is a requirement for all employees, volunteers or trainee students to hold a Blue Card or an Exemption Card if they are providing child related services that are regulated by the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 200. Police officers and registered teachers providing child-related services which are outside of their professional duties do not apply for a Blue Card and should instead apply for an exemption card.

This means that if you provide services for WPC Cricket that are mainly directed at children, or conduct activities that mainly involve children, you will need a Blue Card or an Exemption Card.

Positions in WPC Cricket requiring a Blue Card/Exemption Card:

  • Members of the Management Committee
  • Junior Cricket Manager
  • Youth Cricket Manager
  • Club Coach/Director of Coaching
  • Registrar
  • Volunteer Coordinator
  • Academy Coordinator/Manager
  • Clothing/Merchandise Officer
  • Social Media Convenor
  • Junior Blaster Coordinator*
  • Master Blaster Coordinator*
  • Junior and Youth Team Coaches*
  • Junior and Youth Team Assistant Coaches*
  • Junior and Youth Team Managers*

*If your child is a member of the team in which you hold this position, there is no legal requirement for you to obtain a Blue Card. However without a Blue Card you will be unable to carry out this function should your child be absent from the activity. You will also be unable to offer your services to any young people in the club other than those in your team. WPC Cricket may therefore decline your application for the positions due to the operational difficulties that may result from you not having a Blue Card.


A person whose application is approved is issued with a positive notice letter and a Blue Card. If a person’s application is refused, they are issued with a negative notice which prohibits them from being involved in any volunteer or paid role in the club.


The club Secretary will maintain a Blue Card Register and is advised if your Blue Card application is refused by the government authorities (i.e. you receive a negative notice) or your Blue Card is revoked.


All volunteers, whether their position requires a Blue Card or not, are expected to comply with the club’s guidelines for working with young people.
