We are pleased to present the February edition of WPC News. This newsletter contains essential updates and reminders for all players, parents, and supporters.
Growth and Performance at WPC Cricket
It is great to see increased registrations for the Post Xmas juniors, enabling us to field an additional Stage 1 Team – Super 7s. Thank you to the parents who have stepped up to take on Coach and Manager roles for the first time and those that are continuing. It is you along with a supportive parents who make cricket an enjoyable experience for our younger members. Also, we’ve had a big increase in our Blasters registrations – currently 49, which is fantastic. We have a new coaching team led by Blake Kendrick, senior player and assisted by Robin Groucott, former junior and rep coach and senior player, Jack Schelin, senior player and Charles Sharland, junior player. It is so good to see these people step up and make our entry level program fun and exciting, starting our youngest members on hopefully a lifelong cricket journey.
As our season is moving towards the end our 3 Senior QSDCA teams are all performing well with the A2s and B3s hoping to be in the top 1 or 2 and participating in semi-finals and hopefully finals. The C3 team is also doing well. The Warehouse team is not likely to make finals, but they have had a good season with players improving their cricketing skills and keen to sign up for winter.
Presentation
Our annual Presentation event is to be held on Saturday 28 March at Wolston Park from 3pm. This is a whole of club event where we come together to reflect on and celebrate the last 12 months of WPC Cricket. Coaches and Managers, you will be asked to provide information about trophies soon. There are tight timeframes for getting the information collated and to the trophy supplier so please ensure you meet the deadlines given to you. All members will be asked to RSVP – please do that by the time frame so we cater for the correct numbers. Requests for nominations for perpetual awards – Peter Ferris Memorial – Club Person of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Coach of the year have been sent. Please think about who you know in the club that is giving that extra effort and should be
recognised and consider making a nomination. We need many volunteers to help with preparation and on the day and all teams will have some tasks.
What’s our Name?
Our formal/legal name is Wolston Park Centenary Cricket Club, and we are commonly known as WPC Cricket. We were formed from a merger between 2 clubs Wolston Park and Centenary and it is important that we retain both of these identities in our name. So, if you are mentioning our club by name, please use our correct name i.e. WPC Cricket most of the time and the longer name Wolston Park Centenary Cricket club when there are legal or more formal connotations.
