We are pleased to present the April edition of WPC News. This newsletter contains essential updates and reminders for all players, parents, and members.
Winter Cricket
Winter cricket starts on 2 May and finishes by 30 August. We have registered 2 x Senior teams, U16 – combined with MacGregor, U15, 2 x U13, 3 x U12 in the Warehouse Competition and a U10 team in the Holland Park competition. More information about the competitions can be found via these links:
Qld Cricket Awards
Ellen Ferris was announced as the 2025/26 Volunteer of the Year at the recent Qld Cricket awards event. This award recognises Ellen’s 30 year contribution as a volunteer with WPC Cricket and the cricket community. The award has also provided a great opportunity to showcase WPC, and many positive comments have flowed from the wider cricket community about our club.
Bowling and Batting Master Classes
A free bowling master class will be run by Suranga Lakmal – a former Sri Lankan international player on Sunday 3 May - 9:00am – 11:00am, CJ Greenfield, Freeman Rd, Richlands. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from one of the best—perfect your technique, improve consistency, and gain insights from international cricket.
A free batting master class will be run by Sam Heazlett – former Qld Heat, Bulls and U19 Australian player on Sunday 17 May – 9.00 am – 12 noon, CJ Greenfield, Freeman Rd, Richlands. This is an exclusive opportunity to learn from one of Queensland’s finest batters.
Both sessions are for WPC Junior Winter and Academy registered players only.
Social Smash
Social Smash which was hosted by Qld Cricket at WPC Cricket has now wrapped up after 4 sessions. There were 2 teams – The Go-Team and A-Team and the results are 3 games to the Go-Team and 1 to the A-Team. All who have participated enjoyed it and have asked for the program to be continued. One comment was that it provided the opportunity for people to participate in an activity as a family. This is a fun, social way for people to engage in the sport of cricket. WPC is working with Qld Cricket to consider when this might next be offered.
Heritage Bank Grant
WPC Cricket is very appreciative of the recent grant of $2394 from the Heritage Bank Forest Lake which enabled us to purchase some of the trophies and medallions for our Presentation event and a Pitch it Up Training Aid and Tripod. We value the ongoing assistance from the Heritage Bank which supports community organisations which service the Forest Lake and surrounding area. If you are thinking of your banking needs, please consider the Heritage Bank.
Bunnings BBQ-Oxley 14 June
We are doing another BBQ at Bunnings Oxley on Sunday 14 June and Lee McAlister-Smiley will be the BBQ Captain. He will need volunteers to help on the day and with some of the preparation so please contact him if you can helpwhiteliesbrewing@gmail.com
