Girls Cricket Meet and Greet
9-11am Saturday 4 July at CJ Greenfield - Come along and experience the fun of Girls cricket at WPC in a relaxed, supportive environment! Girls of all skill levels are welcome to take part in activities that introduce batting, bowling, fielding and teamwork, while meeting new friends and building confidence. No experience is necessary—just bring your enthusiasm and be ready to have fun! For further information contact Andrew Rhule girlscricket@wpccricket.com.au
Other Cricket Activities
Despite the impacts of wet weather winter cricket is going well. Also, we have selected the BMC teams and training has started with Dominic Donaldson and Scott Fryar as coaches. We are looking towards getting another Social Smash series underway and considering running a short Blaster program in part of Term 3. We have been visiting some local schools with Qld Cricket representatives as part of the schools Under 8s days.
Winter Presentation Celebration
We are intending to hold a winter season presentation celebration at the end of the winter season rather than be combined with the summer season presentation next year. We will need people involved in winter cricket to take on the planning and delivery of this event. A planning meeting is being held 6.30pm Wednesday 1 July via Teams and we need all winter teams represented.
Bunnings BBQ -Oxley 14 June
Thank you to Lee McAlister-Smiley who was the BBQ Captain for the Oxley Bunnings BBQ and to all the other people who helped out on the day, before or afterwards. It was very busy and successful as a club fundraiser.
We are hoping to have more opportunities for these in the future.
Wolston Park Pavilion Clean Up, Reorganisation - Thank You
We’d like to extend a huge thank you to Peter Davies for the recent work he has done purchasing and installing shelving and re-arranging and cleaning up the Wolston Park pavilion, including the playing and training equipment room and the back storage room. We will soon have a record of the equipment we have and can then determine what we need to order. Please keep the areas tidy and if using items please return to them to their current place. If anything breaks or becomes damaged, please report it to secretary@wpccricket.com.au
Wolston Park – Eddie Gilbert Memorial Field - Rejuvenation
From 13 July some rejuvenation work will be done on the wicket block and surrounds at Eddie Gilbert Memorial Field which will mean the field is not available for play.
WhatsApp Review
Continuing the work on club communication Ellen Ferris will be reviewing the usage, access
arrangements and groups needed for the WPC WhatsApp Community. Please let her know if you have any feedback about this.
General Meeting –Change of Date –now 12 July
We have brought forward the next General meeting by a week so it will now be on 2pm Sunday 12 July @ Wolston Park. We have done this so we can get into the planning for the summer season a little earlier than planned and provide the opportunity for members to be involved in this. We need lots of input for this so please make an effort to attend.
Update from Management Committee
The Management Committee has continued to focus on the filling of vacant roles and considering how the Cricket Ops group might work to best support the delivery of our cricket programs. The Committee is also working on developing a by-law -membership matrix to provide detail about the various classes of membership underpinning the Constitution. Additionally, sponsorship opportunities are being explored. If you can help or
know of a business that might be interested, please contact Abhay Dhir president@wpccricket.com.au
We are also starting work on setting the club budget and fee structure and senior fees payment process.
Volunteers –Appointments, Vacancies, Rewards
Shane King is taking up the Cricket Operations Manager role on the Management Committee for the remainder of the current term of the role i.e. until the next AGM.
Liesel Chiverton is taking up one of the new Committee Member roles on the Management
Committee through until the next AGM.
Please support both Shane and Liesel in their new roles.
Peter Davies will be taking on the Equipment and First Aid Contact role on an interim basis until a new volunteer can be found.
Additionally, we still have the following positions vacant – Junior Cricket Manager, Equipment Officer and First Aid Contact, Merchandise Officer. We urgently need people to put up their hands to take on these roles. If we are not able to fill them then tasks usually done by these roles will not be done e.g. coordination of the Entry Level, Blasters, U10/Stage 1 programs, availability of equipment, acquisition and distribution of clothing. It is unfair to have to ask existing volunteers to take on extra work to cover these roles. Task Sheets for the roles can be found here https://www.wpccricket.com.au/volunteerroles If you are interested in any of the roles, please contact Ellen Ferris secretary@wpccricket.com.au
Volunteer rewards for junior Coach or Manager roles for our winter cricket teams will soon be offered for those people who have undertaken the necessary action following taking up the roles.
