Welcome to the July edition of WPC News, with some very exciting NEWS, key updates and reminders for players, parents, and members.

Sign On/Open Day, Registrations/Team Selection, Play On! Vouchers

Sign On/Open Day – The countdown to the 2026/27 summer season is on. We’d love to welcome players, families, supporters, and anyone interested in joining WPC Cricket to our Sign On & Open Day this Sunday 2 August, 10:00am–2:00pm, at Eddie Gilbert Memorial Field, Orford Drive, Wolston Park, Wacol.

Come along to:

  • Reconnect with teammates and meet new players

  • Try on the new club clothing range so we can collect player sizes and order accurately. This is important for all players except Blasters, whose clothing is included in their sign-on pack.

  • Take part in junior and senior net sessions

  • Have a go at tape-ball and Social Smash activities

  • Try the Queensland Cricket inflatable bowling challenge

  • Enjoy a FREE sausage sizzle, with drinks available to purchase

  • Register for the season through PlayHQ

Whether you’re returning, new to cricket, or simply keen to learn more about WPC, this is a great chance to get involved. Please invite friends and other families—the bigger the turnout, the better the day!

Registrations are expected to open from 1 August. Links for the various PlayHQ programs will be shared separately once available, or you can use the Register button on our website homepage https://www.wpccricket.com.au/.  Please register as soon as possible to help volunteers set up teams before the QSDCA and MSW nomination deadline.

Team Selections

  • Seniors – Last season’s Senior Captains are contacting interested players to confirm availability and determine how many teams to nominate.  If you are interested, please get in touch with them.

  • Junior mixed teams – Team selections/trials will be held from 9:00am–1:00pm on Sunday 30 August and Saturday 5 September.

  • Girls – Andrew Rhule, Girls Cricket Manager, will coordinate team selections.

Winter Pop Up Blaster Program

The 5-week winter Blaster program commenced on 24 July with 18 enthusiastic youngsters and their families.  It was great to see returning participants and welcome new people to the club.

Winter Presentation Celebration

The winter presentation function will be held on Saturday 12 September.  The venue, format and other details are yet to be decided.  We need people involved in winter cricket to take on the planning and delivery of this event. Every team has been asked to nominate one person to do this.   Please let Ellen Ferris seretary@wpccricket.com.au know if you can help.

Bunnings BBQs - Springfield Central 9 August & Oxley 1 November

The Bunnings BBQs are significant fundraisers for the club, helping us to minimise costs borne by members and we need your help to make them a success.  We have the following coming up - Springfield Central 9 August and Oxley 1 November.  Abhay Dhir is the Springfield Central BBQ Captain and Liesel Chiverton for Oxley.  We need at least 6 people to help throughout the day in addition to the lead up work. Please let Abhay president@wpccricket.com.au and Liesel wpc-committee1@wpccricket.com.au know if you can help.

Wolston Park – Eddie Gilbert Memorial Field - Rejuvenation

Rejuvenation work is underway on the wicket block and surrounds at Eddie Gilbert Memorial Field meaning that the field is not available for play.   Minor rejuvenation will also occur at Ducie St Park and CJ Greenfields.  We thank Centenary Landscaping for their generous donation of material to support these works and the volunteers – Peter Davies, Shane King and Shail Parikh who have been instrumental in supervising and getting this work underway.

Update from Management Committee

The Management Committee has been very busy and activities have included focussing on getting things ready for the start of the summer season – planning for the sign on/open day, working with others in the club to set key dates for the summer season, advertising and marketing, new clothing, sponsorship, field rejuvenation activities, setting the club budget and fee structure and senior fees payment process and finalising the By-Law - Membership Matrix.
