We are pleased to present the May edition of WPC News. This newsletter contains essential updates and reminders for all players, parents, and members.
Winter Cricket
After a wet first week when some games and training sessions were washed out the season is now well under way. We hope you are enjoying the winter cricket experience. It has been great to see the energy and enthusiasm of our players and the volunteers and parents supporting them as they are training in the nets and on the field at CJ. For training, please note we do not have access to the CJ main field or the lights on that field during winter. The lease holders, JAGs or other users they have arranged e.g. the Frisbee group have the access.
Thank You
We’d like to extend a huge thank you to Peter Davies who recently undertook the mammoth task of removing, transporting to an alternative storage location and then replacing (in a much tidier arrangement) much of the contents of the CJ storage container. This was required so that some inside concreting works required to satisfy Brisbane City Council requirements could take place.
WPC Communication and Social Media Policies
The club Communication and Social Media policies were recently reviewed and updated and have been distributed separately. These are very important policies that underpin how we operate and connect with each other in the club and externally. Please take the time to read them and enact them. You can find them on the website:

If you have any questions or are looking for guidance with club communication, please contact Ellen Ferris secretary@wpccricket.com.au

Continuing the work on club communication Ellen Ferris will be reviewing the usage, access arrangements and groups needed for the WPC WhatsApp Community. Please let her know if you have any feedback about this.

Bunnings BBQ - Oxley 14 June
We are doing another BBQ at Bunnings Oxley on Sunday 14 June and Lee McAlister-Smiley will be the BBQ Captain. He will need volunteers to help on the day and with some of the preparation so please contact him if you can help whiteliesbrewing@gmail.com
Update from General Meeting
Thank you to those members who participated in the General Meeting. The next meeting will be on 2pm Sunday 19 July @ Wolston Park. We’ll be discussing the summer season plans in depth and we’d really like your input.
Update from Management Committee
The Management Committee has been focussing on filling of vacant roles and considering how the Cricket Ops group might work to best support the delivery of our cricket programs. The Committee is also working on developing a by-law - membership matrix to provide detail about the various classes of membership underpinning the Constitution. Two General Committee members are to be added to the committee to assist with the volume of work. These will be advertised in the near future.
Volunteers – Thank You, Rewards and Vacancies
Thank you to the people who have taken up Captain, Coach or Manager roles for our winter cricket teams. We hope the experience is rewarding for you and your efforts are recognised by the team or group with which you are most associated. Volunteer rewards will be offered for the winter junior team roles for the first time. All junior team volunteers have been sent an e-mail outlining requirements including the need to have a valid Blue Card, so the club is compliant with State Government Child Safety legislation. Please ensure you read the e-mail and take the necessary action.
The following positions are vacant – Junior Cricket Manager, Equipment Officer and First Aid Contact and soon the Cricket Operations Manager. Additionally, Renee Sharland will move out of the Merchandising role soon as she has taken up the vital role of Registrar. We are looking for people to put up their hands to take on these roles. If we are not able to fill them then tasks done by these roles will not be done e.g. issue of clothing, coordination of the U10/Stage 1 programs, availability of equipment. It is unfair to have to ask existing volunteers to take on extra work to cover.
Task Sheets for the roles can be found here https://www.wpccricket.com.au/volunteerroles If you are interested in any of the roles, please contact Ellen Ferris secretary@wpccricket.com.au
Upcoming Meetings and Events
Naming of Anu Perera Cricket Nets - 9am Sunday 17 May. If you are able to attend and have a club shirt, please wear that. Also please encourage players to attend this event.
General Meeting - 2pm Sunday 19 July at @ Wolston Park – this will focus on planning for the summer season. Please take up the opportunity to get involved, raise items, hear what is happening in the club and meet other members.
