We are pleased to present the March edition of WPC News. This newsletter contains essential updates and reminders for all players, parents, and supporters.

End of Summer Season

Our summer season has come to an end. We hope everyone has enjoyed their cricket. Thank you to all the player, parents, supporters and the volunteers who have worked hard to make cricket happen every week. Two of our seniors teams –A2 and C3 made the finals series, with the C3s losing the semi-final and the A2s coming 2nd in the final match. Our juniors won 1 premiership(equal first)–congratulations to the MSW Stage 2 Medallion

WPC Bulls Post Christmas team. We hope to see everyone back for the next summer season if you are not joining us for winter. Summer season registrations usually open in early August.

Presentation

What a great day, our whole of club annual celebration – Presentation Day. Thank you to everyone who helped out in the lead up to and on the day working together to make it such a great event. As we have done in the past and while it is still fresh in our minds, we are collecting feedback about the event and the planning and preparation that went into it.   • Junior Player of the Year - Sumahar Yadanparti, finalist Karan Luchmaya

  • Senior Player of the Year - Matt Kroehnert

  • Coach of the Year - Thisara Pathirannehelage, finalists Matt Kroehnert & Andrew Rhule

  • Volunteer of the Year - Liesel Chiverton

  • Club Person of the Year – Peter Ferris Memorial – Matt Sharland & Ruban Kasinathan, finalist Chaminda Divitotawela

Eddie Gilbert Cup

It was great to host the annual Eddie Gilbert Cup game v the Commissioner’s 11 from Qld Police Service. The result was a draw 78 runs each with WPC as the previous winners retaining the trophy.

Backyard to Big Bash – School Holiday Opportunity

Got a cricket-loving kid aged 5–12? This school holidays just got BIG Join the Backyard to Big Bash holiday clinics these April holidays for fun-filled cricket activities inspired by the Big Bash! It’s a 5 hour cricket experience with Inflatables + games, a Brisbane Heat pack and design your own jersey. There are multiple locations across SEQ. Social Smash

Social Smash is being hosted by Qld Cricket at WPC Cricket and has run for 3 weeks so far and all who have participated have enjoyed it. There are 2 teams – The Go-Team and A-Team and the results so far are 2 games to the Go-Team and 1 to the A-Team. This is a fun, social way for people to engage in the sport of cricket. There is one more session – date to be advised. Then WPC will work with Qld Cricket to consider when this might next be offered.

Bunnings BBQs - Springfield Central Sunday 15 March& Oxley 14 June

The Bunnings BBQ at the Springfield Central store was a great success, providing much needed funds for the club. Thank you BBQ Captain, Abhay Dhir who did most of the work associated with it and all the helpers in the lead up to and on the day. It was a lot of fun working with everyonein the marquee on the day.

We are doing another one at the Oxley store on Sunday 14 June and Lee McAlister-Smiley will be the BBQ Captain. He will need volunteers to help on the day and with some of the preparation so please contact him if you can helpwhiteliesbrewing@gmail.com

Update from Management Committee

The Management Committee has been focussing on preparation for Presentation Day and the Eddie Gilbert Cup, the Bunnings BBQ, grant applications for a lighting project for the John ‘Dinger’ Bell nets and sheds at Eddie Gilbert Memorial Field, transitioning a new Treasurer into the team, winter cricket planning and planning for facility maintenance at Eddie Gilbert Memorial Field.

Facility Maintenance - Eddie Gilbert Memorial Field

A survey is about to be done to determine the works needed for refurbishment of the Eddie Gilbert Memorial wicket and field. This is likely to include laser leveling and top dressing of field and black soil application to the wicket block which will occur over winter.

Volunteers – Thank You, Rewards and Vacancy

Thank you to all our volunteers without whom the club would not function. We hope the experience has been rewarding for you and your efforts have been recognised by the team or group with which you are most associated. Volunteer rewards have been offered and payments for those who have opted to take the reward will be progressed from this week.
